SOS Mentoring II Webinar 2 “Support and challenge balance”

On the 25th of March the Mentoring Institute and Youth Business Russia held the second webinar in the frame of global initiative SOS MENTORING II to support active and potential mentors in entrepreneurship and mentoring programme coordinators in Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia.

Subject of the webinar: ‘Support and challenge balance’.  The webinar was conducted by Boris Tkachenko and Irina Gorelova.

Participants of the webinar:

✔️ Described an ‘ideal’ mentor in terms of behaviour pattern combining support and challenge.

✔️ Analysed the case of Oleg Piskunov from Surgut, the founder and director of a children’s soccer school “Iskra” (Spark). Oleg’s mentor, Alexey Pshenichny, an entrepreneur from Krasnodar with over 25-year business experience, took an active part in the case study.

✔️ Proved the importance of the support-and-challenge balance for the work with a mentee.

During the case study sessions in small groups, the mentors from different countries provided their comments to Oleg on the following:

  • How to strengthen involvement of children’s soccer school coaches?
  • How to improve information environment?

The ideas and proposals delivered by Oleg’s colleagues entrepreneurs were useful for him so he is going to discuss them at the next meeting with his mentor.

Next, Oleg and Alexey described their mentor-mentee relationships in terms of support-and-challenge balance which was this time useful for the other mentors.

The next webinar on mentoring will be held on the 21st of April and will be dedicated to ‘Soft skills for mentors: empathy, listening, asking good questions’.
